The Hydro-Cycle is a packaged wastewater treatment plant developed to serve a population of 2-15people. It is a 3 chamber moving bed biofilm system comprising of a primary settlement chamber, biological treatment chamber and final settlement chamber.

The purpose of the plant is to treat domestic wastewater to an environmentally friendly level allowing it to be discharged to ground through a percolation area.  It is designed to accept waste from domestic toilets/kitchens. Grease from kitchen waste must be removed prior to entering the HydroCycle. Grease from Kitchen waste must be removed prior to entering the HydroCycle.

The tanks are rotationally moulded from durable grade medium density polyethylene and are  moulded in a single process ensuring water-tight  secure system. Internal components are assembled into the tank to create the required environment for wastewater treatment.

HydroCycle Operation & Sizing

Stage 1: Primary Settlement Chamber

Anaerobic digestion takes place in the primary settlement chamber where the wastewater is introduced into the system. Undigested solids settle at the bottom of the chamber allowing partially treated water enter the treatment chamber. The volume of the primary settlement chamber determines the de-sludge period.  (See below for more detail)

 

Stage 2: Treatment Chamber

During this stage,  naturally occurring bacteria grow on the surface of plastic media contained within the chamber. This bacteria is supplied with oxygen present in air bubbles generated by a diffuser at the base of the chamber.  In this environment the bacteria clean the wastewater and reduce the levels of BOD and Ammonia. The diffuser is supplied from an air blower located in a housing close to the tank or in an adjacent building (e.g. garage).

 

Stage 3: Final Settlement Chamber

In the final settlement chamber any small solid particles still in the flow have the opportunity to settle to the bottom of the chamber.  This reduces the levels of suspended solids within the treated water before discharge. A sludge return pipe continuously returns any settled solids to the primary chamber for further treatment.

Commercial Treatment Plant

The Casflow packaged wastewater treatment plants range in size from 51-300 persons. It is a 3-5 chamber fixed bed biofilm system comprising of a primary settlement chamber, biological treatment chamber and final settlement chamber.

The purpose of the plant is to treat domestic wastewater to an environmentally friendly level allowing it to be discharged into the ground through a percolation area. It is designed to accept waste water from domestic toilets/kitchens. Grease from kitchen waste must be removed prior to entering the unit.

Septic Tanks

A septic tank is used to treat raw domestic wastewater to a level that is suitable for discharge into the ground through percolation.

Internally solids are allowed to settle to the base of the tank and a film forms on the top of the water. The liquid portion of the wastewater flows through the tank and into the percolation area where biological treatment takes place before the flow meets the water table. Septic tanks may be installed, subject to consent, in applications where:

  • Soil is of a suitable porosity
  • Installation complies with building regulations (Part H)
  • Installation will not contaminate any watercourse

Distribution Sampling Chamber

The distribution chamber is used to direct the outflow from a wastewater tank to a percolation pipe network allowing treated water to percolate back into the ground.

This chamber is used to take periodic water samples so the performance of the wastewater tank can be periodically tested.   Compliant with EN1566 for use with domestic sewage treatment systems.
